Becoming a mom for the first time is such a special and life-changing experience. Pregnancy has its highs, its challenges, and so many moments worth celebrating. While it isn’t always smooth sailing, it’s a beautiful time in your life — one that deserves to be captured in a meaningful way.
So, when is the perfect time for maternity portraits? As a Katy, TX maternity photographer, I usually recommend scheduling your session in the beginning of your third trimester, around 28 weeks.
This is the sweet spot. Your baby bump is nicely rounded, and most moms still feel comfortable and confident. You’re not “too big” yet, and you can move and pose without discomfort.
It’s uncommon for moms to go into labor at the start of the third trimester, but as your due date approaches, the risk of early labor increases. Scheduling your maternity session around 28 weeks ensures that we have plenty of time to capture your glow and that I can edit and deliver your gallery before your little one arrives.
This timing allows for stress-free planning, wardrobe selection, and the ability to enjoy your session without feeling rushed or uncomfortable.

Mama’s beautiful dress in this session came from my client wardrobe, which is available to all expecting moms to create elegant, effortless, and timeless maternity images.
