You spend the first year waiting for the “big” milestones.
The first smile.
The first laugh.
The first steps.
But somewhere in the middle of it all is a season that quietly slips by faster than almost any other—the sitter stage.
It’s the stage where your baby still reaches for you with both arms. Where their cheeks are still impossibly full and their tiny rolls haven’t disappeared yet. Where they light up the second you walk into the room and belly laugh at the sound of your voice. And somehow, it’s also the stage most parents almost skip documenting.
As a Houston milestone photographer, I can honestly say sitter sessions become some of the most treasured images from your baby’s entire first year.

The sitter milestone usually happens around 6–8 months old, when babies can sit independently but aren’t constantly running away yet. It’s the perfect in-between stage—full of personality, curiosity, and connection.
At this age, your baby is:
This is often the happiest stage of the first year. Babies are expressive, interactive, and genuinely enjoy engaging during sessions, which creates images that feel joyful, connected, and incredibly real.
And while newborn photos preserve how tiny they once were, sitter sessions preserve who they were becoming.

One of the things I hear most from moms after a milestone session is: “I’m SO glad we did this.” Because the truth is—this phase disappears quietly.
One day you’re sitting them upright between pillows, and the next they’re running barefoot through your kitchen asking for snacks. The chunky thighs fade. The gummy smiles change. The baby curls slowly disappear.
These sessions freeze the details you don’t realize you’ll miss until they’re gone.

This is exactly why milestone sessions are such an important part of my First Year Collective experience. The first year isn’t just about documenting major milestones—it’s about preserving the entire story.
Your maternity session captures the anticipation.
Your newborn session captures the beginning.
But your sitter session?
That’s where your baby’s personality truly begins to shine.
It fills in the emotional middle of the story—the season parents often remember most fondly once it’s passed.
Many moms initially think they only “need” newborn and first birthday photos. But by the end of the year, the sitter images are often the ones they print large in their homes because they capture so much joy and connection.
One of my favorite parts of the First Year Collective is watching each family’s story unfold over time.
From documenting the anticipation during maternity photos, to those quiet newborn snuggles at home, to the joyful personality that shines during the sitter stage—every session becomes part of your family’s story.

My milestone sessions are designed to feel simple, relaxed, and completely stress-free for families.
No stiff posing.
No overwhelming props.
No pressure for perfection.
Instead, I focus on:
For moms, access to my client wardrobe is included, helping everything feel cohesive and effortless throughout your baby’s first year of sessions.

The ideal time for a sitter session is typically between 6–8 months old, once your baby can sit independently but before they become constantly on the move.
This window is short—which is why planning ahead matters.
If you are part of the First Year Collective, we’ll coordinate your milestone sessions in advance so you never have to worry about missing this stage.
